France Itinerary Suggestion
Hello All -
I have one day where I will be traveling from Bayeux (Normandy) to the Tours area. Looking for suggestions for stops for lunch, or just to sight-see. Considerations are Vendome, Orleans, LeMans, Blois, or anywhere else that might make a nice stop. We are a group of 11 adults with 2 vans. We are currently booked at a hotel in Tours, but could change that if there is a better way to go. I've not been to this area of France, so and suggestions / information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Why are you staying in Tours? Is it as a base for the Loire Valley? If so, bad choice and you should reconsider staying in or near Amboise instead of dealing with the traffic, headaches and lack of charm that characterize Tours.

I would stop in Alençon and visit the lace-making museum, the last of its kind in France. Have lunch at Au Petit Vatel or Le Chapeau Rouge.
And ditto to Tours - traffic in and out of it is a royal pain, and apart from the very old quarter in the center, it's ugly. Stay in Blois or Amboise, or Chinon or Saumur or Angers, depending on whether the eastern or western end of the valley is your focus.

If you can, take back roads part of the way. You'll be going through some beautiful, unspoiled countryside. It's slower but worth it if you have the time. Southwest of Alencon is the very picturesque village of St Ceneri le Gerei, one of the Plus Beaux Villages of France.
Vendome is totally charming but it's out of your way if you're heading for Tours.
