France in mid October Help please!
 

We have spent a considerable amount of time in France ( once or twice a year for 35 years or so ). Almost all of our trips have been in spring and early summer. We had one gorgeous Oct.trip to Normandy and one dreary Sept. time in Normandy. We will be in France this October for a brief period ( 11 days ). Six days will will be spent in Paris and we are looking for an activity for the other 5 days. We have been to all the obvious places over the years, so we are really looking for suggestions from someone who lives or has lived in France for something that would be really special to do in October.

You probably know more about France than the rest of us put together.

Can't help you think of things to do, as that depends on your particular interests, but having visited France in early Nov., I'd suggest taking enough umbrellas for all travelers.

Lyn, if you've been going to France once or twice per year for 35 years or so, I'd think you'd have seen alot already. Guess someone who's living there will be able to assist you more than most of us here.

When does the Beaujolais come in, in that area?

Hard to know what to suggest without knowing more about which "obvious" places you've visited... but what about the Cathar Pyrenees and/or the Basque Country? Or La Rochelle and the Ile de Ré?

I imagine you've visited the Loire valley already. But I think that it's at its most beautiful in early autumn, with the leaves changing colour, and the mist rising up from the river. We had a wonderful time staying at the Château des Réaux near Saumur, driving around the area and tasting wine, visiting Chinon, the village of Candes St Martin (once voted the prettiest village in France by whichever committee it is that votes on these things...).

PS grandmere, Beaujolais Nouveau is always 3rd Thursday in November..

Has Corsica made it on to that list of yours of obvious places?

No, Rex, Corsica has not made it to our list of "obvious places" but La Rochelle,Il de Re and the Basque country have.

Maybe I expressed myself poorly.
If someone were coming to the U.S. in October, I would suggest the NY/New England area as a must see because the foliage is so spectacular. It is also Pumpkin/Apple picking/Halloween time here.
It's one of the things that makes October "special" around here.

I was hoping for a similar type of suggestion for France in Octobre.
