8 Days in Germany Itinerary Help!

My boyfriend and I are doing a Europe trip, we've set aside 8 nights in Germany.
Currently our itinerary has us landing in Munich on August 18th and we have to be in Amsterdam by August 27th.

How many nights should we stay in Munich? What are Munich's Top Things to do?

What else should we see/have time to see before training to Amsterdam?

Thank you for your help!

I would stay two nights alng the scenic stretch of the Rhine. Stay in one of the smaller towns ( I stay in Bacharach ) and take the boat ride from Rudesheim or Bingen to Boppard

Munich top things to do: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attractio...a_Bavaria.html

"What else should we see/have time to see before training to Amsterdam?"

It's a long trip and the Rhine Valley makes for a good stopover. Besides the Bingen-Boppard cruise bigtyke suggests (which takes about 2.3 hours) you can check out some medieval castles.

Marksburg in Braubach (guided tour) - http://www.marksburg.de/english/frame_nj.htm
Rheinfels in St. Goar - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qxFF80wORNQ

Take the chairlift in Boppard when you get off the boat and walk from the top to Gedeonseck for a great view:

So much depends on your personal taste. We have visited Munich 4 times in the last decade and enjoy it very much but only for 2-3 days at a time. We like the meals, the beer halls and the ambience.

Along the way there are many places to see. The Middle Rhine is a great possibility as already mentioned.

You might also consider the UNESCO world heritage cities of Regensburg or Bamberg. Regensburg is our favorite town in Germany and a short train ride north of Munich along your route.

We also like Würzburg with its Archbishop's Residence and Castle. All three of these cities are great for evening strolls after supper. Due to their smaller size, it is easier to get a better feeling for their history.

A travel guide is worth a look. I like the Michelin Green Guide for laying an itinerary.

How are you traveling by train or by car - makes a different - a neat car route may not be the same as a train route. Like cars are great for going up gorgeous Mosel Valley to Luxembourg then to Amsterdam via Maastricht but by train you can zigzag around fast to hit yes a Regensburg that is not on the direct Munich to Amsterdam routing.

Whether you are going by train or by car, the obvious stops are:

München
Nürnberg
Würzburg
Middle Rhine Valley
Cologne
Amsterdam

Well by car I may suggest the Mosel Valley to Luxembourg - one of the most awesomely scenic drives in Europe - trains do not follow the sinuously twisting valley except Koblenz to Cochem, a part not so dramatic - and that is at least as direct as north to Nurnberg and Wurzburg then back south and west to the Middle Rhine and then up to Cologne to amsterdam - a longer route I'd say or just as long as Cochem-Luxembourg-Maastricht-amsterdam. But returning a car in another country from which you picked it up may mean high high dropoff charges so assume train to Amsterdam if car in Germany.

Train or Car StefanieKGB?

If train some resources - if stopping those places traveler1959 suggests (and all are great places) by train consider the German Railpass which lets you hop on just about any train anytime - if several days of trains of fairly long-distance - check these sights for lots of good train info and where to go in Germany by rail - www.seat61.com; www.budgeteuropetravel.com and www.ricksteves.com. also check www.bahn.de/en for normal and discounted fares - both Nurnberg and Regensburg can be reached from Munich by the Bavarian Pass for about 30-35 euros or so for up to several people total but you are restricted to regional trains that take longer but for most are great because they are so cheap and you need no advance purchase or work to get those tickets like you do from www.bahn.de/en forlonger distance train discounts.
