News From France, an epistle put out by the French Embassy in the U.S. (free subscriptions at: [email protected] or 202-944-6060; www.ambafrance.diplomatie-us.org) incredulously a moi at least, that:
"The National Assembly of France has unanimously voted to declare the pate delicacy, foe gras, an official, and therefore protected, part of France's cultural and culinary heritage. According to the members of the Assembly, foie gras 'perfectly illustrates the adherence to heritage and the link to the land that characterize the originality of the French food model'." What a bunch of crapola! Wonder what the EU's Brusselscrats think about that. |

And, in some cases, like this, it SHOULD be regulated - produce it without horrible animal suffering OK - if not regulate it out of existence.

that was UNANIMOUSLY voted a national heritage by the National Assembly! This means even the Greens, if any in this assembly either voted for it or didn't vote - not even one vote against it - incroyable!

My French housemate just brought back a TUB of homemade foie gras à la Maman. National heritage indeed. We are having a foie gras dinner tomorrow and it promises to be amazing. Ah, the carnage.

to put animals thru such misery is one thing - to brag about it and revel in it is another - like me saying i hope you choke on your fois gras. You can defend the practice but to make fun of animal suffering, that crosses the line i'm afraid.

Foie gras - just takes like expensive butter! I'd much rather eat cheese.
Hubby loves it though (hey, he's French) - likes it best with toasted brioche, salt crystals and confit d'oignon. |
Foie Gras is classed alongside fox hunting, cruel, immoral and undefendable but so so good.

i guess some don't believe in cooked lobsters dropped live into boiling water, or steamed mussels, or clams. lots of animals are raised for the sole purpose of being slaughtered.

Slaughtering animals for food is and always has been part of the requirements for human beings to survive.
Slaughtering them with cruelty, or worse, raising them cruelly to be slaughtered is unnecessary. |
But unlike most animals slaughtered for food, geese and ducks are force-fed for weeks before slaughter, so that their livers will be unnaturally enlarged at the time of death.

And then to make fun of 'the carnage' is beyond the pale of a humane attitude.
