France fête nationale in Paris

We will be flying into Paris on July 14, their fête nationale, and are due to land at 12:40 p.m.
The hotel I've booked is near La Tour Maubourg. Will the metro be open for the trip in from the airport, or would be airport bus be a better option?

Is there any Fodor GTC planned for the Champ de Mars that evening?

We'll be in France for a bit over a month, and planning this rather last moment. Thanks for any suggestions as to how to enjoy this special evening! It's also our wedding anniversary and I've long wanted to be in Paris on July 14th!

Seeing the fireworks on the Champ de Mars went well! The fireworks actually are behind the Eiffel Tower when you're in the area of the lawn. Maybe Trocadero would be a better location to watch them. Everyone stood up when they began, so being short, it was hard to see all of the fireworks, which were low. We stayed in a hotel nearby so walking there was no problem.

Our flight never made it to Paris the afternoon of July 14, because the pilot couldn't land in the heavy storms. We diverted to Brussels and the airline bused the passengers back to Paris. We left the group and took the Thalys train instead so we'd arrive in time!

No, Trocadéro is not accessible, except far behind the buildings. I do not think that all of the ground level effects are a good idea either, but there are designed for the people near the front.
