France: By Far Most Visited Country Au Monde

A press release from the French Embassy says that "with around 77 million tourists a year, according to recently released statistics, France remains by far the world's most visited country."

Spain comes in 2nd in terms of number of tourists, followed by USA, Italy and China.

But France only ranks third in income ($32.3 billion) from tourists - good ole US of A tops that list and Spain is 2nd.

Tourism is now France's most important industry, just a tad ahead of car-making

The release does not say foreign tourists but just tourists and as many French it seems prefer to vacation in France, joining legions of Sun-deprived northern Europeans and Brits perhaps explains the ranking.

Or is those lovely lost-in-time villages, wine, great food...or the especially polite Parisians?

I bet they didn't mention that Oorlando is the most-visited city on Earth...

car-making? France??? The Renault is the biggest piece of crap ever!I would think that Tourism as a top industry would be followed by wine exports, perfume, fashion, food....but car-making??? No way.

For me, personally, this is also true. I've been to France 8 times - my most visited European country.

I have no problem following the hordes. I absolutely love France; been there 5-6 times and consider that I have not even scratch the surface!!
