France and Switzerland - help me plan!

We are planning a 10 day trip to France and Switzerland in August . We are traveling from US with 2 kids aged 5 and 2 . Could anyone suggest an itinerary or a list of must- see attractions?

Our interests are nature, culture , history and adventure ( read trekking/ hiking)

Thanks !

These are whole countries. Any ideas on narrowing down where you want to go in these countries?

10 days is not really enough to see very much. You might see 1-2 cities / areas, but not really enough time to very much.

As my mother tells me about the tours she goes on "We saw everything, sort of".

No, not really. This is what guidebooks and the internet are for. We have no idea of your budget or your interests or how you are moving about, to begin with. You're targeting two entire countries, each of which has thousands upon thousands of attractions. As mentioned, 10 days is a very small amount of time. You need to do some research, get out maps, and do some at least initial planning on your own. Or, at minimum, inform us about why you have chosen France and Switzerland and what you hope to get out of this experience.

Hi folks,

Thanks for the response. Sorry to be an ignoramus - I did some homework but since this is our first trip to Europe , I was not sure if I was on the right track ... I'll share the places I have thought of below, maybe that will be a starting point for you to guide me?

The initial plan was to go to Switzerland and thought it might be nice if can work in France too into the trip. The basic idea is to see new places, revel in the natural beauty and immerse ourselves in the history of these places. We typically enjoy treks and museums, local lifestyle experiences, places of historical / geogrgaphic interest. Since we are traveling with children, we do not want to make it too rushed . We'd like to do it at our own pace ( trains / local transport) but see some of the do- not- miss attractions.

Since we started with Switzerland, the places I came up with are Rhine falls, Matterhorn, Mt.Titlus, jungfraujoch, lucerene. Would it be possible to do Geneva as well? Paris - much less idea - though the Paris/ Eiffel tower is top of the list.
