France Airfare
Just posted asking about air to France in April 2008. Forgot to mention flying out of Los Angeles.
Wondering if $1145 inc taxes in good fare to Nice in April 2008? |
These days there are so many variables, that I think it's impossible to tell whether fares that far out are reasonable or not. Sorry, just my opinion.
|
We had the same thoughts six months, ago, then kicked ourselves when flights continued to rise, then recently found an okay (stilll $$$ price). My advice is to keep checking kayak.com for rates and when something seems decent, nab it.

Kayak.com is a great place. Just tried it.
The airfares I keep getting are right around $1100. I know it is impossible to predict the future, but it seems the concensus is people who buy early rarely regret it? So, I am "getting a good deal" at this time for $1100 roundtrip to Paris....? |
Far too early to lock in the best fare.
|
First I'd be surprised if the airline has the ability to reserve for April '08 yet. I just booked LAX to CDG the other day (for late August) and got $1300. If I had only booked 2 weeks before, when I first started looking, they were $1175. Airfare will probably never go down because of gas prices going up. However, I seem to remember reading that the low-cost European airlines will be allowed to fly to/from the US next year. Might be a great deal for you come 2008!

Hi H,
You are too early for good prices for April. They will get better come Sept. Also, it is much better to keep all of your questions on one thread (just post a reply to the original). ((I)) |
In February 2007, I paid $580 on Air Tahiti Nui for Paris-LAX-Paris, taxes included.
|
For a trip that far away, no airline is interested in engaging in airfare competitions. They just set their fare high knowing that only non-paying award travelers and unsuspecting buyers will pay for such ticket -- so why set fares at competitive prices?
Monitor air fares starting around August. |
If you honestly believe that you KNOW the month when fares will definitely rise or fall IMO you are delusional.
Telling someone that is unforgiveable. Tickets can usually be bought 330days ahead. You might want to monitor flights for that whole month by using that feature at www.itasoftware.com |
what do you think of $682.00 per person round-trip San Antonio to Paris in February of 2008?
|
mcGuire, that sounds pretty good.
to give some comparison: I'm to take my sister to Italy in spring 09. Just scouting around about 6 weeks ago I found an amazing Continental RT to Rome from Omaha (her fair city) in mid-May of 07 for under $500. Just one stop, in Newark, short layover, very nice deal. (That's only about a month advance) Last week checked the same schedule for April '08 and came up with just under $1000. Will re-check in September just to compare. But of course, our trip will be a year later ... anything could happen by then. As for my flight, I'm in NYC, and what's available here at whatever price is constantly changing. The moral: keep looking around and see what you come up with. Don't dream for a minute that you can wait until 4-6 weeks before your desired date and get a great deal, though: I think the cheap May flight I found last month was an anomaly. But for anyone thinking of a sudden trip, you never know what might pop up: a bargain or a king's ransom. |
