We stayed in northern Brittany near Dinan for 2 weeks in early June 2001, followed by 1 week in Southern Brittany near Pont Aven. We were there again in Sept 2006 near the pink rocks area. In 2006 we started our trip with 2 nights in Nantes & 1 night in Vannes. This was our third trip to Vannes.

When we were near Dinan, there was a massive heatwave when we arrived and there were many people was at the beach - and quite sunburn. Two days later - the heatwave was gone and we had several very cool days. In Sept near the pink rocks, it was not hot at all. We never dined outside.

I'm not disputing you or trying to put you down annhig. I was just trying not to give grandmere the impression that Brittany is normally hot in the summertime.

Thank you for the clarification, FrenchMystiqueTours. As she specifically mentioned the weather I was trying to let grandmere know that although it's normally clement, it can get pretty hot, and it can't be that unusual because it happened to us twice in only a few years.

What is hot to someone coming from a cool climate may not be so hot to someone from a warmer place. I'm accustomed to "hot and humid" in the summer, (some years-- Pgh. being variable, too!) hot being high daytime temps of high 80ies or occasionally higher. I don't like it that hot, but running from house with A/C to car with A/C to store with A/C makes it ok! But sightseeing in that heat would be less fun, although two years ago it was hotter than that when we were in Provence in June. Not sure what I am trying to say except that I know everyone is trying to give me his/her best idea of what it will be like in Brittany. I had thought I might need a light windbreaker for daytime sightseeing and probably need to follow the travelers' mantra of layers,layers, as we tell everyone on these forums!

oh yes, grandmere do bring a jacket. even if it's warm in the day it can get cooler at night and at the same time that Vannes was sweltering, the 10kms around the north coast were covered in a sea fret all weekend. And BTW you will be lucky to get AC in all but the most modern hotels.

I would never expect to find an apartment in Vannes with A/C. Chances are you won't need or miss it. I must say, though, that weather patterns in France have been beyond odd in the past few years, so all bets are off, really.
