Four days in lovely Slovenia... What to do?

Hi!

I will be in Slovenia with my husband (late 30s) between May 15 to 19th and am looking for tips on where to go, what to do. I were thinking of spending all this time in the Julian Alps / Bled region... Is that a good idea? Should we just go there and find an inn to stay in or reserve ahead of time? Is a night in Ljubliana a good idea or should we just concentrate on the northern part?

We are coming in from Pula, and then off to Venice.

Any thought are welcome. Merci!

Jojonana

Click on my website link below and then click on "Slovenia 2008." It has my trip report (with photos) on our four days in Slovenia.

Ljubljana - underrated. Dine along the river. Go up to the castle, Take a day trip to one of the caves (you can go to them on the way from Pula to Ljubljana).

Lake Bled - Wonderful. Hike around the lake and up to the castle. Take a pletna to the island. Ten minute drive to Vintgar Gorge. Gorgeous. Speaking of gorge. At Lake Bled devour a Kremna Rezina. Calories never tasted so good!

By the way, you can click on a couple of Venice trips we have taken, too.

We really liked the place we stayed in Ljubljana, too. Great location! Have fun. Slovenia is beautiful. Watch out for the policeman on the drive up to Bled. He's a sneaky one. You'll read about him. DO NOT MISS Kremna Rezina in Bled. Delectable!!!!!!!!!

I thoroughly enjoyed my short visit to the area!

> Is a night in Ljubliana a good idea?

I found Ljubljana to be absolutely charming!

> Should we just go there and find an inn to stay in or reserve ahead of time?

I was there in early June, at which time the places I stayed were fully booked.

Enjoy!

If you are interested, you can stop in Lipca for the Lipizzaner horse performance. We went there from Pula - we could have stayed a long time. Horses, a vineyard and a casino. It was so fun.

If you want to read about our experience with Mr. Ed and Company in Lipica it is on the first day under Rovinj (it was travel day from Bled to Rovinj). All kidding aside in the report, they are beautiful As for the show, well you'll have to read it. I have a couple of pictures with Tracy and the horses.

If you are interested in caves, you might want to visit Slovenian Karst. If you don't want to pay high price for Postojna cave, you can still visit Škocjanske caves or some other caves in Slovenia.
