Please excuse me Portia - I realize you've already moved on. : ))))

Message Walkinaround:

The family is staying a week not four days. With three teenagers in tow I think they may get a bit restless after several days and would welcome a day-trip. It's only a ninety minute commute and the station in Florence could not be in a more convenient location. It will also allow the kids to experience traveling "around" Italy instead of just traveling "to" Italy. May give them confidence for their own future adventures.

First train
Depart 06:30A Rome Arrive 08:06A Florence

Last train
Depart 22:53PFlorence Arrive 00:30A Rome

(over 20 trains daily)

It's always an option when they get there if they feel like it.

sorry, this is a long thread and i did not catch the fact that it changed from 4 days to week +. in that case, yes, i think you should consider a day trip to florence and other places.

I wonder what portia and the person who wanted to wear Nikes to tea at the Dorchester make of the "soap opera" of responses that each of their queries has triggered?!? It is fascinating to read the variety of responses--some of them quite opinionated. This voluminous and occasionally intense reaction to relatively straightforward requests *must* reveal something about the human condition, but I cannot figure out exactly what.....

Kakalena and Skatterfly are very convincing. That's why I'm on this forum. When I was 11 my parents lost me in the Uffizi. They were moving way too fast, and left me behind at the Botticelli Venus. I still remember being frustrated that we only had one day in Florence. A night or two in Florence is sounding really good now.
