Good Points again! We have all traveled together and in smaller groups. Six of us had a blast together while tooling around. The one couple that we all secretly question (never talk to one another about) are frustrating in the way that they don't make reservations when they promise they will.

It has been said that if we as couples do not contribute to lanning we do not get a vote on where to go. My worry is that if a couple ditches planning then that is a clue that we do not make plans to travel to Europe together.

We have only been told of this trip recently and in fact the other couples seemed to have discussed going to Europe in great detail. Maybe we are the couple they were not interested including. Ha! My spouse and I are organized and have both been to Europe (a dozen times between us). Each couple that is going either has one spouse that has visited Europe or has not visited at all.

The couple that hasn't been to Europe at all we love doing things with so I feel like it's worth risking going on a terrible trip with 8 to hang out with 2.

In the past for various reasons, I and later we, did take some trips with friends. We learned that we live and work with people all day, that our travel and holiday time is better enjoyed Just The Two of Us~
So that is the reason for my being aghast at the idea of sharing my holiday with 8 people!
We used to have a house at the beach in NY and every summer, the hordes of friends and friends of friends would descend on us..we rarely had the house to ourselves, all those Friends.
Then again, as one ages, one sometimes appreciates intimate small groups rather than large numbers.
Whatever you do though, I wish you all a lovely holiday~

Scarlett, I'm glad to know now that you prefer to travel just with the Yankee.

I'll just cancel those extra business class airline tickets and *****Star hotel reservations for you two folks to travel with the "little wife" and I on a grand tour of all the great European Capitals.

This is a bit of a letdown as I was so looking forward to treating you to a "Degas-style" vacation that you would always remember!

Toile, I had another idea, one that would allow more flexibility in numbers or level of togetherness. Mediterranean cruise. Unpack once, logistics minimal, see several cities, sit together in the dining room, bars, pool, but you'll be able to tour on your own or in groups, depending on your tastes or inclinations. Nice accommodations, beds, A/C. Have a look at costs - you might be surprised at how reasonable it can be.

Friends of ours are going in a group of six this spring (France & Spain) - one strict vegetarian (near-Vegan), another a lover of wine nearly to excess, one a newbie to Europe, two multi-lingual old hands... all in one van or various trains. No, I can't eat there. No, the wine list's lousy. No, let me drive. No, we can't stop here and get to (destination) on time. Aren't you up yet?

They invited us to go along, for 8. We both thought about it for a few milliseconds and decided that we had to wash our hair that week.

What about South of France. Ideas on that? Or where could we go in Portugal? Could we combine?
