I would say you would need a car to get around Normandy. There are buses, but then you are tied to their schedule.
It would be a great place to stay for a honeymoon. We had pleanty of privacy and never heard another person while we were in our rooms. Once Thomas found out it was your honeymoon, he would make it that much more special. He would come up with all sorts of neat surprises for you. That is were I would stay with my wife for a romantic get away. |
Thanks! We'll consider the car thing...but we're a little apprehensive about driving in France. It would probably be worth it to stay there, though.

...sheesh louise... I got all misty-eyed and teary reading this!
OK... my next trip - Malmaison, to meet up with Josephine; Chenanceaux to meet up with Diane dePortiers...and then this chateaux in Normandy (to meet this guy Thomas!)... I can do this! I hope. [lets see, buy a house? or Travel... buy a house...or travel...decisions, decisions! ] |
Driving in France is so easy. Get on the road and go. If you take the Autoroute, be prepared to pay tolls, but it is fast.

Hi DanM - just now getting back on here and read your posts. Small world! Tell your wife we said hello. Glad you enjoyed the chateau as much as we did. I can't imagine how anyone could go wrong there. I've already referred about 6 friends here in France. Thomas will be getting more guests than he can handle!
Hey - if you have time, could you email me? We are heading to Amsterdam in a few weeks, and stopping for the night in Luxembourg on the way up. I remember your mom said she lives there...thought she/you might have a suggestion as to where to stay, and if we might be able to see something of interest in the evening we are there...?? Thanks! [email protected] Take care, Mindy |
I went to the web site for the chateau but their site is down as it is closed for the season.

If staying at Chateau de Cottun, is it easy to find parking in Bayeux when going there for sightseeing, dinners, etc.? Thank you!
|
The only parking problem we had--and you could have it no matter where you stayed--was near the Bayeux Tapestry museum. Parking for dinner was easy, barely half a block from the two restaurants at which we ate. There's some question as to whether the Château de Cottun will be open next season, however. The web site isn't operating, but you could send a message to Mr. Kleingartner at

Thanks, Underhill! I have reservations at the Hotel d'Argouges; primarily b/c I thought the sites were within walking distance. Not so?
|
Underhill, you asked about restaurants in the area. I know you have travelled there extensively and I appreciated your postings in planning my trip. May I return the favor by mentioning one of my favorite restaurants in Normandy.

We've actually been Normandy only once, and that four six days--but it felt like more. There's so much to see! Thanks for the restaurant recommendation.

Grandmère,
It would depend on which sights you plan to see and how much walking you're up for, and also how much time you can allow. |
I went to the Chateau de Cottun website to check it out for a possible stay in Feb/March 2005. But the website is rather blank and says they are closed for the season. But wouldn't they keep their website up? Maybe it has actually closed for good?
Instead, the Chateau de Cottun website recommends another B&B called Clos de Belle Fontaine in Bayeux. Is anyone familiar with this place? Thanks |
If you don't get any responses, try posting a new thread with Clos de Belle Fontaine in the title and you may catch more fish.
