Fouchon's Macaroons
I clicked off of epicurious.com but before I did, I noted that they are recommending a gift box from Fouchon's (and I KNOW that's not spelled correctly...)
for I believe I read 245 e's..and you get 80 pieces!
So? Who's going to buy themselves a Holiday gift?

Ah . . . I have a box of Ladurée macarons coming to me in a couple weeks.
My sister travels to Paris 6-7 times a year on business - this next trip she'll be returning the night of one of our family get togethers. We decided that the macarons would be PERFECT for dessert!

Yes, the NYC store on Madison ave has them. Both the mini and regular size. They fly them in direct. Since i had Laduree in Paris and Fauchon in NYC it is not fair to compare. When I am in Paris next May I will try both since the shops are so close together and find out for myself!!!!

I don't even like macarons, as I said on another thread, but in Paris they cost about 1 euro each for the very small ones. So, if those are larger cookies, that price isn't that suprising on epicurious. Macarons get stale very very quickly.

it's worthy to note the correct spelling, as others have pointed out, is macaron.
For those who haven't had the pleasure yet, these are nothing like the coconutty macaroon cookies we have in the US.

The ones I had from Confiserie Spruenglia (Basel, Switzerland) are absolutely sublime!! I will have to try those you mentioned in Paris.
I tried the ones from Fauchon in NYC, and they were awful -- the cookie was too sweet, you can taste the sugary crystals. I think the ones I had were either undercooked or just plain awful.
The ones I had in Europe have pillowy soft cookies and light creamy fillings.

Thanks for the tip - I'll be in NY soon. Isn't Fouchon in the lobby of The Drake (Park Ave. & 56th)? Can someone confirm?

Fauchon in NYC is indeed in the lobby of a hotel, on Park and 56th. Not sure of the name of the hotel since there are like 10 major hotels on that street.
Please report back on your experience there, ie. the macaroons.
