Forum Hotel in Munich
 

Will be staying at the Forum on a tour. Any one know how close I will be to the Marienplatz? Don't know how to contact the hotel itself for such information. Your replay would be most appreciated.

The Forum is connected via an interior walkway (with shops, etc) to the Rosenheimer Platz S-Bahn/U-Bahn station...the Marienplatz is a VERY short ride from there.

Wow, thanks for the speedy answer. If I feel like a bit of a jaunt is it walkable ? A mile or so,,,,,

It is all indoors (to the S-Bahn station) and totally walkable..a few minutes.

You probably could walk to the Marienplatz outside..only thing you have to do is find a bridge over the Isar...

As of June 2004, the Forum has become a Holiday Inn. That should really thrill you. It's basically a large business hotel.

Your best bet to get to any tourist places, like the Marienplatz, is the S-Bahn or U-Bahn. It's quite a walk otherwise.

Not buying the room, just using it for a few days. I'm sure the concierge or someone at the desk can point me in the right direction. Thanks for your concern however.

I usualy stay at the Hilton which is at the other end of that "shopping arcade" on the way to the U-Bahn/S-Bahn platforms I mentioned above.

One thing you'll appreciate about that "business hotel" is the air conditioning, especially if it is hot and humid in Munich which it can very often be later in the Summer.

Forum is a brand being discontinued (I think) by InterContinental, a very good chain. Since Holiday Inn and InterCon share the same parent company, I'm not surprised at all.

Also, Holiday Inns have a nicer reputation in Europe than they do in the U.S. Ditto Ramada, which are almost all icky here in the U.S.

Dan and TopMan - the tour also uses the LeMeridien for the stop overs in Munich. Don't always know before departure what you get. I think the tour directors flip a coin with each other. Winner gets the "good" hotel. The LeMeridien seems to have one more star for what that is worth and a pool which would be nice but....Thanks for the additional info.

referring to the walking part of your question: I do not think that Marienplatz is more than a mile from the (former) Forum Hotel and personally, I find it easily walkable. Just head to the left if you step outside your hotel and continue down the small hill. There is a bridge right there across the Isar River. Continue straight on and you'll end up on Marienplatz.

BTW The Meridien is a very nice hotel (right across the street from Cental Station) indeed. Maybe luck finds your way and you end up there.

I think they can as well. My question then becomes "Why are you posting your question here?" Why should we take the time to answer you when you know exactly what to do?
