Forum editors: please index me
Dear Editors,

Please could you set your software to index the forum for the last week or so ? When I answer people and they ask a supplementary question the correspondence will drop down fast to four hundredth place. If your machinery has combed the forum and lists all items with my name then I can see whether anybody still needs help -- or learn that I have forgotten how to read a timetable from Genoa to Florence!

Ben Haines, London

|
Amen. Here's hoping your request is heeded. 17 days since the last indexing, by my reckoning.

Best wishes,

Rex

|
Could you please explain indexing and how it works?
|
I'll let Rex explain.

Yes, Forum Editors: PLEASE INDEX US, PLEASE!!
|
Certainly. The people who run this very useful forum have software of some kind that looks through titles and authors of all postings and follow-up postings, and stores them alphabetically. So before you ask about children in Paris, say, you can put Children Paris into Text Search at the top of the page, and learn what everybody has said.

As you see, I have another use: good indexing lets me check whether people have asked me things that need an answer without searching the last 200 posts to see whether I remember writing on them.

Ben Haines

I thought that the only effective way to convey requests such as this one was to e-mail the editors. [email protected] if memory serves ?
|
You are probably correct - - I posted an addendum to a thread on indexing earlier this week, saying that I no longer write to Fodors because it doesnt seem to work. But I did urge others to write, and I still do. And maybe Ben has.

I was also hoping that the "censors" who have been furiously at work this week, deleting senseless posts, might pass the word on also.

|
Ben, I e-mailed Fodors editors and pointed them into the direction of this thread, stating that if they read this thread they would understand why this is so important to all of us.

Maybe it helped, maybe not.

: )

Funny how all of the travel agents on this board trying to make money off of it are the ones asking for help.
|
Now we can turn this into a multiple choice question!

Bj's comment is:

a) laughably sad
b) pathetically tragic
c) a sign of impotence and jealousy
d) all of the above
That will bring every patriotic Fodorite out of the woodwork!

Even the mouse will participate!

Author: Anonyimouse ([email protected])
Date: 02/23/2002, 02:58 pm

Message: Read each and every post by Ben Haines and feel free to ask him questions.
