forest fires in the Var

There are fires in the var (in the area of French Riviera) Four reported dead so far and thousands evacuated. Arson suspected. The insignificant rainfall for two months paired with the mistral is fanning the flames. Beautiful scenic woods are devastatd.

cigale - this is terrible. I've not seen much of this area and hoped to one day. Do you have any further info about how much damage has been done and what towns have been effected?

If I recall, the area on fire comprehends Gourdon and Fayance, and on the coast, also St Maxime. among others, although I'm not sure if the fire really affected these villages.

There's something in today's NY Times.
Headline is: Fires kill at least four and Ravage Forests on French Riviera.
