Forest fire kills 60+ near Coimbra. Gov't sets 3 days of mourning
Tragic forest fires, perhaps sparked by lightning in tinder-dry forests, has killed more than 60 in Portugal, and the government has declared several days of mourning for the dead. People planning excursions to rural Portugal should be aware of which areas were affected, and people traveling immediately to Portugal might find some of their activities affected by the national mourning.

How awful!
I read some initial reports, but obviously the press in London is full of our own tragedy and is in mourning for similar number killed in an apartment building fire this week. Sympathies and prayers to all in Portugal and London. |
This makes me very sad this morning. We have just returned from 2+ weeks in Portugal, such a beautiful country, such lovely people. So very sorry for their losses.

my heart goes out to the people of Portugal, and of course to those of London as well
