Foreign Currency Check
Could anyone recommend a way to get a check cut in foreign currency without a fee.
My own bank charges $20.00 per transaction but sends the check via overnight delivery.

I don't think it's possible to get one for free. Topping in case someone else does.

I don't think you can do this without being charged a few. I've always been charged for this between $5-7CAD (my own bank charging more so I go to a different bank for this type of stuff) I would suggest calling other banks and finding the lowerst fee. You don't have to have an account for a bank to do this. Maybe also check out those Western Union type of places to see if you can do an international money order.(Sorry I live in Canada don't know what they are called in the US but here its Moneymart)

Would an international money order that you can buy in almost any US Post office do? They are not very expensive , certainly not $20.00

You can't get it done without a fee of some sort. And having overnight mail included is no deal. There is no overnight service to foreign countries. I've sent things "overnight" to Europe through both the post office and Fed Ex. The first one took a week and the second took 6 days because the package sat in customs (at which both neither the post office or Fedex would take responsibility for it.)

If it absolutely positively has to be there on time, just wire the money. It will still cost you $20 or more, but it's the fastest way.

Postal Money Order is probably the most inexpensive way you'll find. It usually works well for most recipients since there are post offices "nearby" almost everywhere.

"Overnight" delivery IS a good deal IF you're sending money to Italy or other places where the mail service is often unreliable and at best slow. If to London it's probably not that important a deal, for example.

twenj
