Message: train travel bilbao-san sebastion=i will be travelling around the basque country in october and need to go from bilbao to san sebastion to pick up a car is this possible

==================================

This turns out to be a tricky question to answer

Some simple train questions can be answered here - - http://www.raileurope.com/us/rail/fa...ules/index.htm - - and this does not mean that I recommened actually buying there. The markup is too high.

But this route cannot be found there.

So then, for a more comprehensive (Spain) train travel website, you go to http://horarios.renfe.es/hir/ingles.html

And it tells you direct route.

But if you go back to raileurope and look at the map - - http://downloads.raileurope.com/pdf/maps/spain.html, you see you need to connect through Mirnda de Ebro. That's a trip of 1:40, for example, leaving at 16:50, arriving at 18:25. Then connecting onward to (Donostia)/San Sebastian is a little over two hours, for example, leaving at 19:11, arriving at 21:30.

I didn't see any better connections than that.

Best wishes,

Rex

I believe that there are express bus services between San Sebastian and Bilbao.

"PESA, at the Estación de Buses de Garillano (tel. 94-439-50-77), operates more than a dozen buses per day to and from San Sebastián (trip time: 1 1/4 hr.)."

This appears to be more efficient than the train, which does lookk as if it involves connections at Miranda de Ebro on all routes.

Don't take the train!
The very easiest, best way to travel from Bilbao to San Sebastián is on a Pesa bus. Busses depart from Bilbao's Termibus station, close to the San Mames fútbol stadium.

Mon-Thurs: busses run every 1/2 hr. from 6:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., then 11, noon, then from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., then 5, 6, then every
1/2 hr. till 10 p.m.

Fridays: every 1/2 hr, starting at 6:30 a.m.

Saturdays: hourly from 7 a.m.-10 p.m.,

Sun. and holidays: hourly from 9 a.m.-10 p.m. (except no departure at 2 p.m.

I'm looking at an old schedule. cova may have a copy of the Pesa '04 schedule handy, but it's probably very similar.

I wonder if kiwimike ever returned, or saw any of what occurred in the "aftermath of the "null" postings...
