For London lovers--P.D.James quote

In The Lighthouse by P.D. James (another Commander Dalgliesh mystery from 2005) I found this, my new favorite quote about London. Dalgliesh's lady-love thinks: "London withheld some part of her mystery even from those who loved her. London was history solidified in brick and stone, illuminated in stained glass, celebrated in monument and statue, and yet… it was more a spirit than a place, a vagrant air which breathed down the hidden alleyways, possessed the silence of empty city churches, and lay dormant under her most raucous streets."

We are scheduled to be there 4 weeks from right now!

Anybody else got a favorite quote about London? (Other than Dr. J's famous one)

Not a quote, but read the Bryant & May mystery series by Christopher Fowler. They are a love affair with London.

A broken heart is a very pleasant complaint for a man in London if he has a comfortable income.

Here are my favorite James lines, from The Murder Room:

"Seconds passed before consciousness finally seeped away. There was time to think how simple and easy it was to die, and to say thank you to the God in whom she had always believed and of whom she had asked so little."

Peaceful, eloquent words.
