For all of you in Ireland write now...
 

We will be leaving for Ireland the day after Christmas. I am curious...what is the weather like right now? I know to bring an umbrella. Do we need winter jackets? (NorthEast USA winter) Thanks a bunch.

the weather in Ireland today was very good and great for a walk.
The long term forcast up to 20th. December is showers and temp around 8c by day and 3 by night.Not bad really.
If you are still around next week I will post an up to date weather forcast nearer your visiting time.
Be sure and bring warm socks and good water-tight shoes. there is nothing as bad as having cold damp feet. Remember what they say have good warm footware and a cap and in between is up to yourself.

No - in Ireland below freezing weather and snow are both quite rare. It's more like cool fall weather - they don;t really get winter like we do.

today is a nice enough day, there is winter sun, but its very cold. The next few days are to be dry and "fine" which means we get watery wintry sun. For your trip after Christmas you most definitely need winter jackets and gloves and scarves, dont even think of leaving them behind, I find in winter here in Dublin the best jacket to wear is my ski jacket, its lightweight but warm, wear layers so you can peel of as need be, have fun in Ireland.

Thanks to all for your help. We will bring our ski jackets with removable liners. CU, I will be checking periodically next week for your update and really appreciate it. Can't wait for our trip. I know it will be dark early, cold and possibly rainy, but am still excited!! Weather.com is predicting showers everyday in Galway and Dublin. Does it rain intermittently or all day? Thanks again,

It can rain all day here in Ireland or just rain for a few hours, the worse weather in Ireland is usually in the West and North-West, along the East coast we are not too bad.

Keep an eye on www.visitdublin.ie For the weather look at www.met.ie It will help you. Good thinking to be here after Christmas,have a good credit card and hit those stores for the sales. Who said the only bargains are in New York.the reason I said have warm footwear and a cap and what is in between is up to yourself is that people put on heavy cloths and hit for the stores where the heat will wear them out.
We only get showers here in Ireland. the trouble is some are long and others are short!!!!!!!!!!!
