Football fans in London

Ok I am not familiar with this, so forgive me if I seem ignorant. DH wants to go to a match while we are in London Dec 26-30. And after checking out the club websites (found it on Lonely Planet), it seems that its off season for the Premier League, but I did though find these matches for Dec 26th or 28th. Which one should we go to?

Charleton Athletic
Leyton Orient
Millwall

Also what is Family Matches? Saw on Tottenham Hotspur's website:
http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/tick...nfo_dates.html

Tottenahm Hotspur v Fulham - December 26th, 2008, 13:00

Charlton are the biggest of the three. For boxing day you'd probably want to book in advance.

Millwall and Orient are smaller clubs - and don't get big crowds.

Forget spurs - Boxing day will be sold out tighter than a drum.

Family Matches - registered junior and senior members (fans) can buy half-price tickets for their friends and families

No, there is a full fixture of Premier League matches on Boxing Day and days following.
Boxing Day:
Chelsea play West Brom (1 pm)
Tottenham play Fulham (1 pm)

Sunday 28th:
Arsenal play Portsmouth (2 pm)
Fulham play Chelsea (2 pm)
WestHam play Stoke City (2 pm)

Hi Alec, is there a website you could suggest I can buy tickets for the Premier league? I looked at each club's website and the dates werent posted, so I thought there would be no games.....

Tickets won't be on sale yet. There are sites that promise tickets - but they will fleece you price-wise.

You will find it VERY hard to get tickets for any EPL game over the great Christmas Shut-down. West Ham might be worth a punt.

Real football match in Wembley coming up - but tickets sold out as soon as they were put on sale. It will be the biggest crowd to see any English football match in 2008 as it was in 2007.

NBA Basketball last week sold out.

Brits are desperate for lively action sports it seems.

Last winter i went to two pre-game soccer events, just to see the crowds and what goes on - it was very interesting - the fans, the intense security - the, really family affair caught me by surprise - lots of Dads and sons - no Hooligans that i could see. A festive atmosphere. And i'm sure pubs near the stadium would be a good place to watch the match - providing you are wearing the right colors.

Remember not all games are televised live, and those that are, usually kick off earlier (around 12.45 pm) or later (around 5.15 pm) than other games. Sunday televised games kick off usually around 1.30 pm and 4 pm.
List of live Premier League games in Dec:
Sky Sports at http://www.skysports.com/story/0,195....html#Fixtures
Setanta Sports at
http://www.setanta.com/en/UK/Our-Spo...clays-Premier/

Most pubs will show them.

Hi,

Well if Fulham are playing at home you might be able to get a ticket ... they are always advertising on the radio.

Also spurs aren't playing so well ... & it is Fulham at home ... might be possible ... try emailing clubs directly - say you a fan (of home club), you might be able to get tickets that way.

You will find Spurs really hard to get tickets for. In fact all the EPL clubs will be hard - as said Fulham's probably your best bet.

There will be people selling tickets outside the grounds but expect to pay at least double face value.

LP is wrong then - each of the Premiership teams are playing 2 fames between the 26th & 30th December - and only 2 of them games are after the 28th December

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/foot...es/default.stm

Of the games that are on the only one you are likely to get tickets for is the West Ham v Stoke game as Fulham is involved in 2 London derbies and Arsenal & Chelsea are hard to get tickets for at the best of time

What about Crystal Palace v Norwich on 26th or QPR v Watford on the 28th.

Not premiership - but Palace get big crowds and QPR are the second richest club in the world.

You should get tickets for both fairly easily.

There was once a player called Queen who got into an argument at a Crystal Palace match. The sub-editors all loved him - he gave them the headline "Queen in Palace brawl".
