Great thread! We will be staying in Le Marais in early December. We tend to eat in a lot of foodie restaurants at home (Philadelphia) and for business ... so I am wondering if anyone can comment on above recommendations (or other) that are not so much "high end" foodie and rather will capture the essence of living in Paris (neighborhood bisto, ethnic, whatever). I read the great review of Verjus in Saveur and laughed at the reviewer's mention that the American chef could have opened this restaurant in Philadelphia (other than the emphasis on local French ingredients). We will probably go anyway! Thanks in advance!

Oh, a stroke of luck....Verjus is open the weekend we arrive so we are going our first night in Paris.
Tickets to Strasbourg....check (I can already taste the gingerbread) and Grandmere thank you for the suggestions as the flammekuche (tarte a l'oignon) is on the list to try.
Spring reservation....check
L'Atelier du Joel Robuchon reservation....check
Verjus reservation.....check
Readyabout....Le Florimond and Le Souffle are not high end. Josephine Chez Dumonet is classic French., More comfort food. Le Tastevin is also not high end and more simple, I believe. That's a tough one to define...no one ever agrees on what is high end/foodie.

Not to nitpick, Denisea, but tarte a l'loignon and flammekuche (tarte flambee) are not the same thing. Tarte a l'oignon is a tart shell filled with onions and kind of an egg-y custard. Flammekuche is made with a thin, almost pizza-like crust and topped with creme fraiche, smoked bacon, and some onions. Both are delicious!

Denise, thank you for starting this thread. I throughly enjoyed your Christmas trip report and you and Chas are a cute couple. I am trying not to book too many restaurants for our stay but it is hard pairing down the list. We are going to be there for 9 nights and I really want to be spontanous as I have only booked three old hat restos. Jules Verne' and Michel Rostang for my wife(she likes straight forward food) and Les 110 Taillevent, I love the review and photos that gracejoan always posts. I am not sure about the ettiquite but on T A there is a good thread about current Paris restaurants from some Chowhound participants. 22 days and counting....

One of our favorite casual restaurants in Paris used to be Restaurant Aux Trois Petits Cochons. It closed last year with a promise to reopen and it did! Its now in the 18th & hopefully will continue to provide good food.

Hi denisea,
I know this is an old thread but hoping you'll see this.
I have been lurking and enjoy you contributions.
I had noticed that you said you were staying at a Paris Perfect apartment "Seyssel". We have that apartment reserved and I was looking for any feedback you may have.
Thanks
