fourfortravel, Love your mention of Gasthaus Franz Josef, over 20 years ago we stopped in St Wolfgang for a quick look, found it so charming and we’ve returned several times since. We happened upon Gasthaus Franz Josef and asked for a room for the night, we ended up staying 4 nights and it was such an experience we’ll never forget. The owner, at that time, asked if we had plans when leaving SW and we said we were headed to Vienna, no reservations, would find something when we arrived. He told us it was a long holiday weekend and we’d have a hard time finding a place so last minute thus our extending to 4 nights. Every morning he’d join us at breakfast and give suggestions for the day, we saw and went places we’d have never thought of, one day he mentioned a local talent show in the school auditorium that evening, we went and it was a high light. of our travels.

We were in SW last December and returned for a late lunch, they were packed but we were seated upstairs in a small room with a few other tables and the food was excellent.
