Food, glorious food, in Venice
Keeping our fingers crossed that we'll be spending five nights in Venice in June. While there, we'll be celebrating two birthdays....would love suggestions of non-touristy places to dine that would have good food and ambience. Also, does anyone have suggestions for a cooking class or something of that type...wine tasting, whatever, that we could do while there.

Every restaurant in Venice has some tourists in it
For a slow food kind of experience in a beautiful room you could consider Local:

Vini a Gigio has excellent food and a stellar wine list but their room is not extremely atmospheric. It is more traditional trattoria in terms of decor. Vini Da Gigio
A place with a beautiful room is Regina Sconta, they specialize in meat. https://www.facebook.com/reginasconta/
For a wine tasting check out Venetian Vine - https://venetianvine.org/
One thing that could be really fun for your birthdays is a cicchetti cruise on the canals.. https://rowvenice.org/rv-cichetto-row/
SO much fun!

For a special occasion, you can’t beat Ai Mercanti. We have dined there several times.

I loved Bancogiro in San Polo, just off the Rialto Bridge. Tons of outdoor seating along a small canal. Terrific food and OUTSTANDING WINES, including a by the glass Coravin selection that was terrific. You’ll need reservations but if you can’t make them in advance of your trip, just stop by and get a reservation for a later night. I also really liked the place right next door whose name I can’t recall. (you’ll see it if you search my Sept trip report). it begins with an “A” and was also very good with a great wine selection.

MinnBeef Bancogiro is on the Grand Canal, not such a small canal but indeed it is an excellent recommendation. I usually drink there, not eat there, it’s ok to just go for a glass of wine without a reservation. Just don’t sit at a table set up for meals. Not the cheapest place to drink in town but who cares, with that view.
