Food Cost in Ireland
Hi All,
I'm finalizing the cost of my trip and I was wondering if anyone who has been to Ireland can tell me what the cost of an average meal is there? I figure I spend $10 or less on lunch now, but that doesn't include beer or anything. Then also I figure around $15 or less on dinner, (not including any beer either) The hostels or bed and breakfasts I'll be staying at say they have free breakfast so I'm sure to eat there most days i guess. So is around $30-$35 a day on food a good budget? While I'm at it, whats the price of an average pint of beer? |
Is this in the countryside or Dublin? I found Dublin to be very expensive for food, and I live in London. It may be a good idea to google pubs in the areas you are staying and looking at the menus for ideas about what you will spend.

It's possible to eat at almost any budget - but I would find those way too low for the US - and definitely too low for Ireland - unless you want to take a sandwich out of a supermarket.

We found the food costs in Ireland higher than in most places we've been in the US for comparable meals. Not hugely higher, but noticeably.

Pub grub is reasonable, I think and you get so much food. always under ten. A pint is around five euro. I love Marks and Spenser for take away. Nice salads and we always stop for water if we are in a hotel.

A B&B breakfast choice will range from fruit to a Full Irish, the latter should keep you going until lunch 1-2pm Irish time. Then a quick snack, Coffee and Scone or sandwich to put you on till 6 or 7 pm the cut off for cheaper menu pub grub (many put the prices up around 7pm till close around 9pm) menus should be on display outside so no need to walk in and be shocked. I aim to pay between €8 and €15 for a decent bar meal depending on location. So under €25 for food and a couple of pints. Be aware food in Ireland tends to be sea/field to plate so tastes a little different to the big M freezer meals some like the freshness others don't.

thanks all, yea thats a good idea ill have to google some pubs restaurants to see their menus. I'll be traveling all over so from whatI got from everyone is that 30-35 should be okay for a budget for a day. (this is also eating on a budget, i know if i want something nicer and everything I could def spend more) but if I can eat at that and have a few pints that'd be great.
thanks again! |
Yes, but 25 euros is $35 - and that is coffee and scone for lunch and pub grub before 7 pm for dinner.

34.00 today. Eat a big breakfast. I love a bowl of seafood chowder and brown bread. If you stay in hostels they normally have a kitchen. I have only done one in Galway and the sandwiches were being made as we were having breakfast. I have been on trips and students break out the peanut butter and jelly sandwiches out of their backpacks. You need green fees.

Eating out is very expensive everywhere in Ireland, especially in Dublin.... Stick to pubs, and ask the locals where to eat.
