Food at Frankfurt Airport

Greetings

We are flying out of Frankfurt, direct to Pittsburgh (one of the very last of such flights, alas, as USAirways is cancelling them). We would like to know what is good to buy to eat on the plane at this airport.

Leaving Italy, we often buy a pannini or other good sandwich. Leaving France, we sometimes take home pastries on the plane. So I hope I have conveyed the idea: it's a long flight, and we like to bring food on board. Anything good to buy to take on the plane at the Frankfurt Airport?

I don't know what is available at the Frankfurt Airport since when I changed planes there, we were sent to a secure area for planes going to the U.S., and there was absolutely nowhere to buy anything in that area. My advice is to make sure you have whatever you need before you pass through security.

There's a reasonable supermarket. To find it, you used to have to follow the signs for the sex shop (for which, of course, there's a standard international icon, just like hospitals and railway stations have)

You may be less embarrased to follow www1.frankfurt-airport.com/cms/default/rubrik/5/5003.delicatessen_sweets-all_before.htm

Wow, flanneruk, I thought you were kidding until I went to the airport website. As US dweller, it would never occur to me that there might be a sex shop in an airport.

And Nikki, we have a bit of a layover at the Frankfurt airport. It will be an utter drag if we are unable to leave a secure area to shop or eat. Oh well...

The area in and around the Sex Shop has lots of places to buy food, shop, etc. so it shouldn't be a problem to get something for the plane.

Someone once told me that this was the only airport to actually have a Sex shop - whether true or not, it's an interesting spot! Stop in, it's rather fun.
