Fontainebleau SNCF / Bus Tour or ?
Has anyone taken the SNCF package-Train A/R + Bus + Entree for Fontainebleau? If so, How did it work out? Is it possible to book a guided tour in English at Fontainebleau? Any experience with the Paris Tour MiniBus company?

How complex is it to get to Chambord & Cheverny on one's own?

Thanks

Thanks

We took the sncf pkg to Fontainbleau this past April. Everything worked out great except one thing. Having the tickets in advance allowed us to go right in and avoid the long ticket line. But I wanted to get the english translation headphones. In order to get them I would have had to get into the ticket line. So I punted. There are english translation placards throughout the palace explaining points of interest; they are abridged versions of the french placards, however.

There were several groups there with English speaking tour guides. But I don't know how the guides were arranged.

I'd go early enough to have time to stroll the gardens in addition to the palace. We got to Fontainbleau at lunch, ate at a restaurant in town first, toured the palace, and then didn't have enough time left to stroll around outside much. Plus it was pretty dang cold in April.

Have fun.

I haven't done it yet but there is a minibus tour for Chambord/Cheverny etc. from Tours & Amboise that was rec. by Rick Steves staff. http://www.accodispo-tours.com/engli...xcursions.html. I will use them is September. Looks like you can make it a day or stay in the area.
