Fontainebleau or Malmaison

I would like to get other people's opinions regarding Fontainebleau and Mailmaison. I will only be able to visit one of them and need to pick! Advice and perspective from people who have been to both would be greatly appreciated. Thank-you!

As someone who loves Napoleon, I'd say try to go to both. But if you can't, here's MHO on both. Fonatainbleu is a rather long train ride and then you need to take a bus to the Chateau. It's lovely but very formal and has Napoleon's throne room. The town is also fun to walk around in. To get to Malmaison, you have to go to Arche de L'Defense and then take a bus. It's really a beautiful house and grounds but more informal. You really feel like Josephine or Napoleon has just left the room. Plus they have a lovely gift shop. Personally, I enjoyed Malmaison the most because it was really a home to both of them and you get a better "feel" for who they were. Sorry to be so long-winded but for me, seeing Malmaison in person was really a dream come true. Jackie Kennedy went there on her trip to Paris long ago and loved it too.

Thanks for the info. I am also very interested in Josephine and now feel I am leaning towards Malmaison instead of Fontainebleau. I will have a car so access won't be a problem, but I don't think I will be able to see both.
Thanks again.
