Fontainbleu, after the Loire?
 

Michael----I just saw some photos of yours from Fontainbleu and it looked interesting.

To anyone who's been there----after being to The Loire twice (East & West) will it be interesting?

We tried Vaux le Vicompte(sp?) and it was dull compared to The Loire.

Paris is "our love" but we always try to get out for a day or two.

I love Fontainebleau (note correct spelling - it's not a cheese), but it's hard to say whether you would find it dull or not without knowing what holds your interest.

Fontainebleau has a long history. My pictures show the more public interiors. We did not go through Napoleon's apartment. Its multiple levels of history might be more interesting for history buffs.

I prefer Fontainebleau to Versailles. It was Napoleon's favourite and he had his pick of chateaux!

We were there in August 2008 having driven from the Loire
on our way to Paris...it was delightfully uncrowded.

I enjoyed Vaux le Vicomte for a day trip as I'd seen most other wellknown chateaux, etc., but I didn't drool all over it and I don't constantly recommend it to people as being all that as some people do. But it was a private residence, and Versaille was the palace of the King, these aren't really comparable.

I really enjoyed Fontainebleau, it's smaller and more manageable than Versailles, and very beautful. But again, it's not the same thing. I think you'd enjoy it, it's not as dull as a lot of the Loire chateaux, IMO, which don't have much in them and had not particular historical significance.
