fog

Has anybody delt with fog in Tuscany in November?

I've experienced just about every kind of weather in Tuscany, including snow, but no significant fog.

I am interested in your question. Did you hear that fog is a problem in Tuscany in November, and if so, in which parts of Tuscany?

Tuscany is so large, with so many different types of areas... I am sure that somewhere there is an area that is subject to fog, maybe even in November. I just don't know about it...

We stayed in Siena and drove back from Montalcino in the worst fog I have ever seen but have never read any reports about this problem-very scary!

Did this happen just this November? Sounds awful. I hate fog here at home and can't imagine that it would be anything but really frightening in a strange country.

But I don't think this is a common November problem, or at least not one that I've heard about. I think it was probably just an unfortunate set of weather circumstances. I am going to dig into this a bit, though, just to see if it is a problem in the area, and if it happens more often at certain times of year. I'll post here if I find anything more.

I remember once coming home at night, outside of Pittsburgh, years ago, on a road that I traveled regularly for years and years, in pea soup fog. I knew every inch of that road, but couldn't see anything I recognized on that night. I continued to live in that area for another decade or so, and never again saw any serious fog.

I've experienced fog - in September - just outside San Gimignano. It cleared as the sun burned it away, but early in the morning I couldn't see a thing from my hotel window.

And I have a lovely postcard of the Abbey of Sant'Antimo veiled in fog.

You jarred my cranky memory, and yes, I've experienced some morning fog in different areas of Tuscany. But it was the pretty kind, not scary at all. Early morning in Florence comes to mind...

fog is a problem in many parts of italy, so much that there are highway speed limits posted to be followed during fog with suggestions as to distances of visibity and suggested speeds .

i have experienced very bad fog from pisa to milan in the fall and winter.

it did burn off later in the morning.

Our fog was at night with no road shoulder. We could not see any side roads until we passed by especially since we had another car right on our tail!!
