I guess "we" never defined IP for sydney - - it stands for Internet Protocol (but sort of also means "point-of-presence", I think) - - it's a unique 12 digit number that defines the nde where you are connected to the internet. The IP of a message would never change - - it's like the postmark of where a message originated. some of us might have dozens of them. I have more than one ISP, and they have multple dynamic IP's and I also use from many other loications, depending on where I happen to be - - mltiple hospitals, university and library locations, plus I travel a certain amount. So there might be messages from me - - as Rex or as "xxx" with the same IP as the one I am hooked to right now - - from very diffferent points in time - - or they might be different four different times today alone. Tracking a person's presence on the Internet can be very easy - - or - - very hard - - to be complete.<BR><BR>And it remains pretty easy to be anonymous on the internet. The public library user is the simplest example I can give.<BR>

I'm not a troll, but I'm uncomfortable using my real name and e-mail address. People can track you down so easily through the internet these days. I love fodors.com and even though trolls are irritating I feel it's worth it to put up with them to protect my anonymity.

It's also very easy to post anonymously and have multiple IDs on boards that require registration. It all boils down to how much monitoring (censorship) a board has. All boards have lots of info that is questionable, so you just have to filter through it. If trolls bother you, then go to a highly censored board. Trolls don't bother me at all, since the bottom line is there is a TON of info in the archives here that I can't find anywhere else. The only negative about this board is that the search indexes aren't updated often enough.

No, he must be in his manic phase now.

manic, from the Latin root word "manus"... "hand"<BR><BR>meaning "offering a helping hand to anyone who needs it".<BR>
