At the moment there are 326 people that say that they have stayed at a hotel that cost over $400.00 per night. I haven't seem much or any comment about this on this forum. Any one care to comment on their $400.00 plus room? Where was it ? Did you like it? Would you stay there again?

I wonder if these people dreamed about staying at such plush and expensives hotels???????

Ritz Carlton- Naples FLA- in winter-<BR>rates are $425 pn--<BR><BR>But I went in June and the same room was $119 on AX special..<BR><BR>YES_ I LOVED the room and the HOTEL- and YES , I would stay there again...<BR><BR><BR>IN EUROPE, I stayed at the Sheraton Park Lane- FABULOUS ROOM- HUGE for Europe-very elegant--not too typically English..but super super nice-<BR>Yes, I would stay there again...as the location was GREAT- a block from Harrods- and the tube was just across the street

Would anyone wish to state whether they were one of the 326 (maybe more now ) that took the poll and said they stayed in a hotel that cost over $400.00 per night?<BR><BR>Just curious..Thanks

I didn't take the poll, but we stayed in the Hotel Eden in Rome, for close to $500 a night, and it was a huge disappointment. The bathroom was larger than the room, the airconditioning wasn't working well, and the closet lights kept blinking on and off. <BR><BR>We also were lucky one summer (while celebrating our 20th) to nab a jr. suite at the Relais Christine in Paris for $450.00/night, and that was worth every penny. We had a small living room with upstairs bedroom loft, both beautifully decorated, with a lovely view of the street. The hotel was extremely well-located, and helpful in every way. If we could afford it, we'd do it again, but it's probably well over $500/night by now...

I am definately a minority on this site!!!<BR><BR>I have stayed all over America, Europe, and the middle East, and had a fantastic time. I have never paid more than the lowest number on the pole...$100. I am one of only 6%!<BR><BR>$400 or more per night? Now I understand where so many people on this site are coming from. Wealth!

<BR>Hey, I've travelled extensively also and enjoyed every minute but can not rememeber paying over $150.00 a night. $400.00, Cheeeez,you can buy a ticket to Europe for that!!!

A question: Does it count as &quot;costing&quot; over $400/night if you didn't pay that price?<BR><BR>Observation: When I stay in a really pricey hotel I sometimes feel I am not getting my money's worth because I'm not &quot;using&quot; the room that much. I remember distinctly a beautiful room that had a large comfy chair and ottoman that I thought would be lovely to sit in and read. I never had time to do that during my stay. Anyone else experience this?

It depends on what you want to do on vacation. I don't think we ever spent more than a couple of waking hours in a day in our hotel while on a vacation. Mostly getting ready to go out. So even if we had the money to spend $400 on a hotel room, I doubt we'd bother. The most we ever spent was $130 because of a fabulous view--then spent a total of about 10 minutes over 2 days enjoying that view. We typically spend $60-$90 a night double. As long as we have a private bath, the place is clean, it has a good location, and the service is friendly and capable, we are happy.

I've stayed in some of the best hotels in the US and have never spent that kind of money. The most expensive suite that I've ever stayed in was $1500 per night, but I got it gratus because of booking over 2000 rooms for a conference. I just could not see paying that much for 6 hours sleep.<BR>Actually, I try to stay in private homes when I travel.<BR>

It is now past midnight on the East Coast and there is a new question about passports.<BR><BR>Who were these 346+ people that said that they had stayed in a hotel room at least once that cost over $400.00 per night? The mystery folks. <BR><BR>Maybe the people that answer the poll questions are different people than than those that post on the forum. We will never know.

We've done it but the worth it question certainly looms large when you do. I usually think that it's smart to pay little for hotels in major cities where you will be out of your room most of the time and to make larger investments in rooms at resort type places--say like the Il Pelicano outside of Rome. That said, our $400 plus hotel room was in Venice, quite contrary to my rule. We had been spoiled by a couple of lovely stays some years ago at the Europa Regina with a junior suite directly on the Grand Canal (but for about $200 or 300 at the time) When we returned sometime later, the best we could do to get Grand Canal rooms was at Bauer Grunewald--which turned out to be Grand Canal from the side, not directly on but stillat $600 per night. The hallways reminded me of a state hospital and the breakfast room was gigantic and sterile, definitely not worth it, so I've vowed never to be so profligate again.

I didn't answer the poll, but it's important to remember that there are huge differences in &quot;hotel rooms that cost more than $400/night&quot;. It could mean a luxury nameplate at a posh address where rooms regularly cost that much. But it often simply means visiting a place where seasonality and/or special events create drastic swings in rates at a given property because the demand far outstrips the available supply during that period of time. In that case, the relationship between the rate and the quality of the property or room can become all but meaningless.

I wasn't one of the 326, but I have stayed in a few $400/night hotels, or at least some high-priced places that probably cost $400/night now, even if they didn't then. And I have &quot;visited in&quot; some (usually for a breakfast, lunch or dinner) where I might LIKE to stay someday (Minerve in Rome, Villa d'Este in Cenobbio, Villa san michele in fiesole, Mayfair in London). The Schweitzerhof in Lucerne was one that I remember as thinking &quot;this is NOT worth this high price&quot; - - and a later stay at the Albana across the lake in Weggis seemed to confirm that notion.<BR><BR>I once had the opportunity to stay in some fabulous hotels on a client's tab (they made the hotel choice, not me) as part of consulting services (Pulitzer in Amsterdam, Palm Beach Hotel, the Vanderbilt in Santa Barbara); a great way to experience finer hotels if you can get it!<BR><BR>Best wishes,<BR><BR>Rex<BR>[email protected]<BR>

We stayed in Mayfair last year at Grosvenor House in one of their suites.<BR><BR>I didn't click the $400 option on the poll though. We ended up in the room on the cheap (really cheap) by pure happenstance.<BR><BR>We are far more in the $100-$200 crowd, depending upon where we are and whether a special occasion is involved.

We paid a little over 400 at night at San Domenico Palace in Taormina, Sicily. It was a special occasion and the room and view were magnificient.
