Fodors' new look

I've been gone all weekend so I don't know if I've missed a previous discussion on this; but what does everybody think of the new look of Fodors.com?

abbynicole27 Feb 14th, 2005 12:30 PM

I'll start - I'm not so sure about the orange and yellow - I kinda liked the colors from before better.

I know you don't want to hear this but while you were away this latest "issue" has been chewed up, and over, and spit out a couple of times. You might want to do a search to review the latest "extravaganza of differing opinions" on this very subject.

I just posted on another thread about this. I just logged on too and what an awful surprise. It hurts my eyes.

There have been two long threads:

Before I look at the long threads I will have to stick a post it on the top of my screen to cover the garishness!

It's rather strange, really...

I remember from a Psych class I took once that after orange, the most disliked colors are chartreuse, mustard yellow and indigo. And Fodors hit 2 out of 4. I don't they're getting the response they expected.

I remember from a class I took that orange is the favorite color of the mentally ill.

Fodors may not be getting the response they expected, but I think the new colors are here to stay because they are aligned to the Fodors guidebook colors.

SeaUrchin, Post-its and duct tape have been suggested, as has fashioning a folded piece of paper over the top of your screen, all serve the purpose of obscuring some of the annoying flashing ads as well.

What flashing ads? I've had a pop up stopper for ages, so don't see those ads you must be talking about.
But my laptop has a new semi-permanent feature, a tent-folded piece of poster board to cover the glaring black Fodor's circle that gives me a flash of white every time I move away from the screen.

When I was a kid I would make Napoleon hats out of folded paper, now that skill can be of some use, who woulda thought? I think my computer will look jaunty and whimsical with a little paper hat.

I don't like the colors and did work in marketing research, so would not recommend them. If they relate to the books, that makes some sense.

However, I have a problem in that all of the type that used to be red on my computer when it indicated a post or name that I had already read/clicked on within a recent time -- this type is now gray to indicate that. It is not very visible. The other type has stayed the same colors.

I did not read the recent threads and suppose I could wade through them for that, but I don't really care so much about opinions of the style so much as that technical issue. Does anyone remember if that was discussed on there or know?

I don't know about flashing ads, I have never had all these popups and flashing ads that other people do even though I don't have a popup stopper. I go directly to the Europe Forum from a link, though, not the Fodors homepage.
