I have a couple ideas for Barcelona;

1. On Sunday at 12 pm go to the Cathedral and watch the Saldana. The locals spend the afternoon dancing to live orchestra music in the square in front of the church.

2. Go to the roof of the Barcelona Cathedral (by elevator). Fun and great view.

3. Go to underground Barcelona. There are tons of ancient Roman ruins under modern Barcelona - including a brewery!

4. Go at night to watch the street entertainers on the Ramblas.

Finally, beware of pickpockets and DO NOT accept any flowers!!!! (you'll see)

Cheribob great ideas! I didn't realize there are Roman ruins underground in Barcelona. Beer and ruins? What a great combination. What is the Saldana? Mary

Zydecoqueen, I too have gleaned a vast amount of information from this site in preparation for our family's trip in June. Your trip sounds incredible...ours is just two weeks in Italy, so I'm trying to make the most of it. I was starting to feel really good about our plans until I read your note about the Scavi Tour, with which I'm totally unfamiliar! Sounds like from what everyone is saying about their turn around time, I am too late...dare I ask, what exactly their tour consists of?

The official site Is: [email protected](
ufficio scavi)
St. Peter's Scavi Tour
Excavations The Vatican Scavi, is one of the most sacred spots in the world for Christians.
The nature of the necropolis is such that visits can be made only in small groups.
Second, in order to care for the necropolis and tomb of St Peter, we necessarily need to limit the amount of the visitors that visit each day (only about 300 people each day).

The tickets seem to arrive two months or so prior to proposed arrival (if you are lucky). SO far we have heard nothing and are also worried about getting tickets.

Good luck I may email a second time!
