I like Shuttle-Inter, a private shuttle, and contrary to what Sarastro has said, it is only 55 euro from CDG to the city, about the same price as a taxi. I have used them successfully for 3 round trips now and highly recommend them. You pay nothing in advance, and someone will meet you outside baggage claim with your name on a placard.

I will chime in on the Hotel Clément in the 6th as well -- St. Germain area.
This is not our favorite hotel, but it is our "summer choice" hotel because of their air-conditioning and location. Especially for someone a little long in the tooth, the fact that is has A/C, an elevator, a myriad of restaurants around as well as multiple metro stops in its vicinity (the closest one has an escalator), Le Clément is very convenient.
Be advised the rooms (and elevator) are small for the price and if you are a light sleeper you might want the quieter backside rooms (will cost you more); I prefer the hustle and bustle of people watching and the view of the St. Sulpice towers on the front-side, personally. The front desk help is professional but reserved, sans plus.
We walk across the street to inside the Marché St. Germain for breakfast at La Brioche Dorée; you can get breakfast for 1/2 the price of the hotel...breakfast around the corner at one of the famous cafés, however, will set you back more than the hotel...but for some the experience of bkf at les Deux Magots would be fun and worth it.
This is an extremely safe neighborhood; lots of people about late into the evenings.

Ballroomdancer - don't fear the Metro, it is fantastic.
I've been to Paris twice in the past 2 years, the first in a family group with my parents, husband and child. We stayed in the 7th for a week.
I went back for a week last year, sans family. I stayed in Le Marais and adored it. A female alone and had no issues at all.
No advice on hotels as I prefer to rent apartments.
Both trips we either walked everywhere or used the metro. (Pick a 4th floor walk up apartment and lose 3kg in 5 days).
If you're concerned about safety, then avoid looking or acting like a tourist. The only time I had an issue was while taking photos in a side street in the 1st. A couple of teenaged girls tried to grab my dslr and ask for me for money. I yelled very loudly in some rather universal language and they took off.

As is probably the case with most major cities your biggest risk is a pickpocket on the Metro. I work in NY and never ride the subway with my wallet in my back pocket. My MIL tends to not really pay attention to her surroundings and had her wallet stolen on the Paris Metro, despite our warnings to be careful of exactly that.

Thank you everyone! I have taken your advice and have booked Le Clement. I went to their site and the rooms seem very nice and for a decent price. They have a special rate for booking online (but you all probably knew that already.) Also, the location looked good too, I like being within walking distance of Notre Dame. Since we'll only be there a couple of days, we really only need a place to crash and bathe.
Again, thank you everyone. I really appreciate the help.

I think that you will be happy at the Hotel Clement and with the convenience and services of the neighborhood. Although I've stayed all over Paris since the mid 70s, I've stayed in the 6th, quite regularly, since 1981.
Hotel Clement is the first hotel that I recommend on my above-mentioned Left Bank Hotel Thread. I started staying there in the early 2000s. I rent apartments now, but friends still stay there. Happy Travels!

Well, it has been about 7 years since I've been to Paris, but I uised to go every 2 years previously. I took the Roisy Bus from the airport to town (across from the Opera station (subway)) and then the subway to my final destination. Provided you don't have lots of luggage(due to the steps in the subway system) it was quite economical. Search for that.
