Your Europe page seems not to be working properly.

You might have been banned?

J62 Jan 10th, 2009 10:21 AM

The entire site was down till just a few min ago.

StCirq Jan 10th, 2009 10:21 AM

No, it's been down for hours.

Cries_Van_Notebook Jan 10th, 2009 10:21 AM

I couldn't log on until 2:15 PM EST.

If you look you will see that most posts stopped around 5 AM EST.

Well, that certainly explains things. I tried to log in 87 million times! I was really confused looking at the posting times.

Judyrem Jan 10th, 2009 10:36 AM

Yes, I had Fodors withdrawal ;-).

oh2doula Jan 10th, 2009 12:38 PM

My boyfriend gives me hard time about being on here all the time and when I couldnt get signed in this morning he asked if you can only be on here a certain amount of time - it was horrible!!

glad its back - missed it!!!

sheila Jan 11th, 2009 02:12 AM

That's good. I changed browsers yesterday morning, and thought that's what the problem was.

annhig Jan 11th, 2009 02:15 AM

me too - it kept locking me out all yesterday.

glad in a way it wasn't just me! that way paranoia lies.

regards, ann

walkinaround Jan 11th, 2009 02:20 AM

i thought i finally got banned

TDudette Jan 11th, 2009 02:40 AM

Yeah, when I tried to log in it said I didn't exist so I opened a new account called ddudette. Fortunately, I was revived today so didn't activate the new account.

How does one know he or she has been banned by the way???

flanneruk Jan 11th, 2009 03:10 AM

"How does one know he or she has been banned by the way???"

You get - or used to get - a note when you try logging in telling you you're barred.

Whether they eventually forgive you, whether the system eventually forgets, or whether the barred list can get wiped out if the system crashes, I don't know. But being banned isn't necessarily for life.

walkinaround Jan 11th, 2009 03:38 AM

thanks flanner.

i had no idea how this worked. despite posting here for probably 8 years i have only ever posted in one name and never been banned.

Sher Jan 11th, 2009 04:03 AM

Unfortunately those who have been banned cannot really post to tell us how it works.

artstuff Jan 11th, 2009 04:08 AM

I was up at 5:15 yesterday morning, and couldn't get logged on to the site to reply to a thread. I was pretty bummed since I look forward to my weekend morning travel time on Fodor's.

I'm glad to see it's working this morning.

Robyn :)>-

Those that have been banned but wish to remain often show up under a new pen name. They may not announce themselves. Others it's clear who they are.

Sher Jan 11th, 2009 08:02 AM

I think I realized that they show up under a different name, but how are they notified actually?

yk Jan 11th, 2009 08:07 AM

my undestanding is that if you really got banned, you will get an email from Fodors editors informing you of the ban.

flanneruk Jan 11th, 2009 09:01 AM

"Unfortunately those who have been banned cannot really post to tell us how it works."

They can. One has. And you don't get an email.
