Foder's Email - Real?

I received an email today saying that Fodor's wants to send me a free guide to thank me for providing a quote in their Fodors Florence 2009 Guide. I don't know what quote they are referring to. A quote they took off of this forum I assume. Is this for real, or a scam? They want my address and telephone number, etc. I think it's wonderful if it's true, but I just don't trust a lot of the emails I receive. Have other people received this type of email?

I received one too and was wondering the same thing you are.

oh yeah, it's real and it's sweet! Happened to me once last year, and again this year. Love a free book, thanks Fodors!

Nikki Dec 1st, 2008 02:58 PM

Yes, it's real. I got one for the Paris book. In the past the editors have just announced the list of people by their screen names and you would send them an e-mail with your name and address to send the book. Now they are evidently seeking posters out and sending e-mail to them, which insures that lots more people will notice they were quoted.

Yes, I got it, too. As Nikki says.

Maribel Dec 1st, 2008 03:03 PM

me too!

Great! I went ahead and responded to the email for my free travel guide!

isabel Dec 1st, 2008 03:14 PM

Me too. And I guess I'll need to get the book to find out what I said that was worth quoting. They say you can get some other guide than the one you were quoted in.

My pearls of wisdom were not used.....:(

Maybe next year.....

Add me to the list for London :) I do wonder what I said, though

Yes, it's real. I've been quoted 3 times in 2 guidebooks. And received 2 free guidebooks.

When they use your quote they offer a free guidebook & it can be the one you are quoted in or any other one of your choice.

Debs Dec 1st, 2008 04:09 PM

Yes ... it's real! Welcome to the quoted club! Happened to me earlier this year. Nice of Fodors to send you a free book!

And darned if I could think of anything I'd said in a post that would be book worthy!

Enjoy!

Not to worry... they make sure we all sound extremely intelligent!

I received one too - for the Florence guide. Funny thing is, I don't recall mentioning Florence more than once or twice in the last year. But I bet I've posted to a hundred or more threads about France, and have yet to be quoted. I was in the San Francisco book last year & received a free Eastern Europe guide as a prize.

Received an email today as well. Apparently quoted in Italy 2009.

I now feel so justified spending many hours on this site researching trips.

susanna Dec 1st, 2008 05:13 PM

Me too!!

nytraveler Dec 1st, 2008 05:32 PM

Yes - It's real. I've been quoted in - and got free copies of several of the guidebooks.

caroltis Dec 1st, 2008 05:52 PM

How cool...I wonder what I said about Italy that hasn't been said before??? Hope I will recognize it in the guide - problem is Fodor's Italy guidebook is gigantic!
That's a very nice gesture on the part of Fodors. Grazie Mille!!!

Cool! I got an email too and am thrilled to be quoted a second time~
Still haven't found my "quote" in the last London guide though but I'll keep looking.
