FM1 train from FCO to Vatican area
My DH and I are leaving for Italy on Oct. 20th. We have decided to take the FM1 train from FCO into the city because we really don't need to go to Termini. Also, this seems like a much more economical transportation option. My problem is I don't recognise the train stations except for Trastevere. Is there a station closer to Vatican City? Our apt. is on Via della Stazione Vaticana, which is the 1st street south of Vatical City. We plan to catch a taxi from the station to our apt. Thanks for any help.

The FM1 stops at these stations in Rome.
Roma Trastevere
Roma Ostiense
Roma Tuscolana
Roma Tiburtina
All the ones beyond Trastevere are south/east side of Rome, and further from your destination.
You can connect at Trastevere to the FR5? regional train, one stop to Roma S. Pietro, which is near the Vatican and your apt on Via della Stazione Vaticana. Or you can get a 10Euro taxi from Trastevere. Depending on the wait for connecting train it's probably faster and easier anyway.

No, you would buy a single ticket from Fiumicino Airport to Roma S. Pietro for 5.50€ and validate it before you board at Fiumicino. There is a 16min wait at Trastevere for the 4min ride to San Pietro. You can decide when you get there if you wish.

look up schedules at
www.ferroviedellostato.it
Enter "Roma aeroporto" and "Roma S. Pietro" as your departure and arrival stations.

Airport Shuttle would only cost a few euro more.

Taxis from the airport are set fees of 40€.

A BIRG daily ticket for 3 zones (metrebus Lazio pass) for 4Euro will get you from FCO to the Trastevere station (otherwise it's 8 Euro just for the train to Trastevere). The pass is good for one day unlimited bus, tram, metro and train in 3 zones (Red and Orange). Google metrebus Rome
Make sure you get the Lazio 3 zone, not the BIG daily which is only good for 2 zones (Rome (Red zone) is considered 2 zones) and not good for the airport in Fiumicino (Orange zone).
With the 3 zone pass you can visit many of the little towns outside of Rome, like Frascati
