flying to London on United--how is it?
 

Has anyone flown to london on United? I've flown Virgin and loved it, but a package trip we're doing has us on United. Was it okay?

Well - you get there safely.

United tends to be a cattle call. I've flown United to London and back probably 10 times. The Boeing 777 plane is always crowded, but depending on the crew, the service can be indifferent. Having said that, and I know there will be differing opinions, United is a very safe airline.

Thanks for the reply. That's really interesting what you have to say about it. I never even knew they flew overseas, so I wasn't sure if they really made the flight nice (considering the amount of time you're on it), or is it just another flight for them. I'm used to the pampering on Virgin. But as long as we get there safely, that's all that matters in the long run.

I've always had good experiences flying United to London. Seats aren'tt as cramped as Virgin, and they don't serve that nasty Virgin cola. United and Virgin are, in my opinion, the two best to London. Although I can't say that I've ever been "pampered" in coach class on an international flight.

Everyone has different opinions, but at the end of the day, it's only 6-10 hours each way out of your entire life, so unless you're flying BA and the toilets get "full" (on two different flights!), the differences between the airlines aren't really that huge.

I flew to London on United last October. I was pleasantly surprised. It had the most leg room of any airline I flew to Europe. It was brand new 777. Seat 2-5-2. The crew was very pleasant and the food was fine. Passed around Ice Cream and cookies continually. Price was terrific $331 RT

I also fly United to London (doing again on May 30). Coach is never great, but United's as good as most carriers if not better. I've had good luck with on-time flights. I just try to avoid the center 5 seats (or at least the very center 3).

i can only support the view that united is probably the best airline on trans- atlantic flights currently. Their 777 offers rather good leg- room (for coach standards) and food and service have been better to what i experienced at lufthansa, british, air france and delta.

I flew return from London to Newark a couple of weeks ago. I only flew with them because I had vouchers and would say they seemed okay, nothing more.

The food was as expected, fairly bad. The hostess service was good though the plane was more than half empty both ways. The hostesses were attentive and provided plenty of drinks. Check-in at Newark was a complete shambles.

The flights were cheap and because the plane was half empty each way I had plenty of room to myself and I got there safely so that's the main thing.

Virgin and BA seemed better by comparison. BA have suffered lots of criticism recently but I have not tended to have any problems with them.
