Flying to Florence from New England

Best airport to fly into? Florence itself?
Thanks

Or Pisa is not too far away -- there might be more flights per day.

Florence would be a larger airport, wouldn't it.? I imagine you'd fly through a European hub, for instance Paris on Air France, London on British Airways etc.....Would you leave from Boston.!? Is Florence your first destination.

I just remember seeing more options Boston/Pisa than Boston/Florence, when researching a couple years ago.

There were no direct flights, but as I recall one could go through London, Frankfurt, Paris, or Milan. If you pick Milan, consider just taking the train to Florence -- no layover, and much cheaper.

Thank you.
We are leaving from Portland Me. so, would head over either from Boston or N.Y.
We will be flying out of Venice to return...any suggestions there?

There are direct flights Venice/Boston (and of course Venice/NYC).

Otherwise lots of connections from Venice in the usual big European cities. NYC is usually slightly cheaper, but maybe not when you factor in getting there from Portland.

If you travel Boston/NYC/Italy, Delta is nice because they have their own terminal in NY -- no need to change terminals between domestic/international flights. When we did it, the price was the same from Boston as from NYC -- the extra leg was free.
