Flying Norwegian Air Shuttle Long-Haul

I posted this over on the Air Travel board, but I'm hoping that someone over here might have some insight. Much appreciated!

I have found several appealing fares from NY to various European destinations with Norwegian, but am curious if anyone has experience flying with them long-haul? I know they are a budget airline, and that you're expected to pay for any conveniences, but if anyone can provide insight into comfort and reliability of service (delays/cancellations), I'd greatly appreciate it!

We flew Norwegian Air May of this year. It was very inexpensive plus it was the only non stop flight from Copenhagen to LAX. Norwegian Air was on some sort of strike so the substitute airline was EuroAtlantic. I never heard of them. It's based in Portugal and it was OK. The plane was a 777 and it had more leg room than the regular airlines. It even had a footrest! We had the three seats to ourselves so it was comfortable. The food was OK, not better or worse than the rest in cattle class. Free alcoholic beverages.

I don't know anything about the comfort of the ride, but there are apparently some powerful forces in the U.S. that don't want Nowegian to succeed.

For recent specific segment performance, you can look at flightware.com,www.flightstat.com for example CPH-LAX,

I don't think the bureau of transportation tracks non-US carriers apps.bts.gov/xml/ontimesummarystatistics/src/index.xml

Thank you for all of the links. It seems like more often than not, the reviews seem to say that you get what you pay for.

I am considering using Norwegian for a flight from London to Copenhagen this summer. Has anyone flown this leg on this carrier? Also, we would be arriving via ferry from Caen, France to Portsmouth, England at 7:30 a.m. The flight from Gatwick is at 1:40 pm. does anyone know anything about National Rail and if we could make this flight?

bernieann: You really should start a new thread since your questions are entirely different.

But re the ferry/train it takes about 90 minutes from Portsmouth Harbour station to Gatwick (a little less or a little more depending on which train you catch). There are trains at 12 and 29 past the hour so the earliest you could get to Gatwick is between 9:30 and 10:00-ish. So yes you can easily make that flight.

With a topic this old it is probably best to start a new one, particularly as you are not on a long haul flight as per the title.

I occassionally do Gatwick via Portsmouth, and providing your ferry isn't very late, then you should be fine.

Trains take between 80 and 95 minutes, and there are two an hour at around 10 past and half past the hour (the half past train requires a change)

So providing you get on the 10:10ish train, you will be in Gatwick in time (the 10:30 will get there but only leave you 90 minutes before your flight which you may consider too tight)

Janisj was writing at the same time.

As far as I know you will need to take a taxi from the ferry port to the station, in which case it is likely to be Portsmouth and Southsea rather than Portsmouth Harbour (which serves the IOW ferries) so trains are at 16 minutes and 33 minutes past the hour.
