Flying into Nice - stay in Provence
 

Hi,<BR><BR>We booked our flights a while back for our honeymoon next summer (used miles). At the time, we thought we wanted to start our trip in the French Rivera, so we booked a flight into Nice.<BR><BR>Now, we are drawn to Provence. Does it make sense to drive from the Nice airport to Provence? We don't have flexibility on changing our flights (we would have to pay).<BR><BR>Given this info, which towns should we consider, if any, in Provence?<BR><BR>All suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

sure, it's maybe a 2 hour drive, 2 and a half hours? <BR><BR>St. Remy area is lovely. You have a lot to choose from if you base yourself there...

Maya, last May we flew in and out of Nice to go to the Grand Prix at Monaco. We went to Provence for a week then returned to the coast for the race. We first drove to Gordes, then Avignon, Aix then back to Tourrettes Sur Loup. Feel free to e-mail me if you are interested in hotel/restaurant information.

Hi Maya,<BR>Why not. We did this on one of our trips to France. After a 9 hr flight to Paris, caught a plane at Orly for a flight to Nice. Picked up our rental car at Nice Airport. We stayed overnight in Cap d'Antibes then proceeded to drive the next day to Provence. We stayed in the medieval town of Bonnieux for a &quot;Food Vacation.&quot; We visited so many interesting villages...Gordes; Menerbes; Cavillion; La Coste; Laurmarin; St. Remy; Arles; La Paradou and Avignon to name a few. Depending on the time you have you could split your time between the two areas: Provence and French Riviera. Lucky you! Enjoy.

We travel to Provence each year. We used to go through Nice but now go through Paris and then use the TGV. The drive to Aix is 2 hours, to St. Remy 2 1/2 all on major AutoRoutes.<BR><BR>St Remy is our favorite base, we have stayed there in each of the last ten years. There is a Wednesday market that is terrific. Lavender blooms in July.<BR><BR>Nearby, in Peter Mayle's Luberon, is the lovely villages of Lourmarin and Saignon. Others mentioned on other posts like Gordes, Bonnieux are great too.<BR><BR>Provence is wonderful. E-mail me for any more specific information.

Thank you all for your help, we now feel much better about flying into Nice and driving to Provence.<BR><BR>As for the comment about multiple Maya's, there is just one. I'm getting married and I'm excited about planning our honeymoon. Sorry for posting too often.
