Flyglobespan to Scotland
Our family will travel to Scotland this summer. Flyglobspan is offering direct flights from Boston to Glasgow. I know nothing about that airline. Can anyone fill us in on their reputation, etc?
Thanks, Jack |
As an airline, they're fairly new, and mainly operate short-haul low-cost operations to holiday destinations in Europe. The transatlantic routes are a fairly new development. No idea about what quality of service you can expect on board, but I suspect the no-frills business model is being used.
This may sound off-putting - however, they're an offshoot of Globespan, a long-established holiday operator based in Scotland. They're not some new upstart company who don't know how to run an airline. |
We have used Flyglobespan several times but only in Europe. They are a no frills service. Snacks can be purchased on board, it normally costs extra to prebook seats and the luggage allowance was not great but adequate for us. We are quite happy to fly with them.

Word of warning - check your flight is non stop as they have introduced stops at Knock/Belfast on other routes & don't guarantee that a flight will be non stop.
Other than that it is cheap, minimal seating & absolutely no frills unless you pay extra. |
I asked this same question about two months ago. Lots of replies with terrible horror stories of cancelled flights, etc. You might want to do a search on it.
Made me decide "no way" for our Boston to Scotland trip this summer. Fares improved overnight last night....would encourage you to check out kayak.com and take a peak. |
Liverpool New York daily flights have been cut back to 4 flights a week due to low passenger numbers it has been announced this week.
|
They have serious operation problem. Twice in a month, the same 757-200 made two emergency landings in Hamilton, Ontario. Lots and lots of cancelled and severly delayed flights.
THAT would be the main reason why they're scaling back. Or perhaps enough people have heard about the nightmares and are staying away from them. |
And now cancelled altogether - http://www.news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/engla...de/6266518.stm

Huh? I didn't hear anything. And that link didn't work. Just yesterday, the CEO apologized to its passengers and said they'll restore full service ASAP.
|
I got access to the above story whcih Caroline linked through Google. It's not being suspended until October.
|
I thought about using them for Memorial Day. Glad that I didn't.
I removed the "www" from caroline's link and it was fine: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/m...de/6266518.stm |
I see, that story. It was out over 10 days ago, and yes, it won't be running over the winter. I've read in another forum someone questioning whether the low passenger load is because of the market or that Flyglobespan has driven them away with its own problems.
|
I used them once and would hesitate to use them again due to the problems we had.
