Fly to Hamburg for $464 - $2649

Just went to Travelocity to look for the tickets to Germany, just to see how much it cost without "DEAL" !!!
I am still can not understand why - WHY ?
search brought me 4 prices as far apart as
$464 - $2649.
Cheap ones AirFrance, expensive Lufthanza.
Same travel time - 10hours 25 min, 1 stop for both (Paris, Frankfurt relatively).

What makes it so far apart, please, explain.
Thanks

There is no explaining airfares. That's why people are always encouraged to search all over the place for the best fare before buying.

It's also why you should never ask the person next to you on the plane how much he/she paid for his/her seat!

The Air France flight probably has lots of empty seats left, while the Lufthansa flight doesn't.

Or, if it's a flight several months away, maybe Lufthansa hasn't got it's less expensive prices set up yet.

Yeah,
but $2200 difference per person ???

Tat, yes. You'll see that flucutate. In a few weeks it could be reversed with Air France a lot more expensive than Lufthansa. It's all about how many seats they have to fill.

It is always about how many seats have to be filled AND the amount of competition on the particular route you are looking at. The less competition, the higher the fares tend to be and the fewer number of seats means the airline can charge higher prices. Prices of seats change, literally, daily if not hourly sometimes...the computer constantly -reprices the remaining sets so the airline can reach at least a break-even factor on each flight. That said, sometimes you can actually get a lower fare at the last minute but I agree with the above..constantly check..that's about all you can do.

Tat - perhaps the problem is with Travelocity. Checking the LH website
JFK to HAM (RT)
March = $404
May = $745
July = $1186
AF Website:
March = $423
May = $792
July = $1203

See, what happened, I've purchased my tickets from Lufthansa for departure on
April,1 return on April,12 for $399.
The reason I am checking now is because I need one additional ticket. I was hoping my friend can fly with us, but now only FA is compatible in price.

I am thinking - can't they see that $2649 is not gonna sell them any tickets when $464 is out there ?
I am trying to call logic here :)

Thanks, I got the point ... seats ...
