Flowers in Venice

Hi, does anyone know of a good flower shop in Venice? Or a place to get fresh flowers. My fiance is a florist and would like to make my bouquette for our wedding.

I heard the flea market has flowers, but is it open everyday? And is there a nice selection?

If you walk from San Marco to the vaporetto stop on the Fondamenta Nuova, you will pass a couple of very reasonable flower shops on your way, not far from the fondamenta.

Thanks, Holly. That is very helpful. Do you know how much flowers cost in Italy?

Don't remember exactly what I paid, but it couldn't have been that much. I could look it up at home if you really want me to. But I do remember that the 2 shops I bought from near the fondamenta were both about half the price of what the guy at the foot of the Accademia Bridge was charging for a bunch of cut flowers. And they were still blooming when I left more than a week later!

Thanks Holly! No need to look up the receipts, I just want to know that I don't have to give an arm and leg for it. The wedding planners I checked with in Italy quoted me $40 for a boutinaire. Just one single flower. And $150 for a simple small cascading bouquet.

We thought we would save us the trouble of having to find a flower shop and just buy it made, but with prices so high, we'll make my own.

Tandy, you can get beautiful, reasonable flowers at the Rialto fish market, there is a guy who sells them out of buckets amid the fish vendors. There is also a flower vendor in Campo Santa Maria Formosa on Tuesday and Saturday mornings. As Holly said, there are a number of flower vendors around Fondamenta Nove, because that is where you catch the boat to the cemetary.

Other flower shops are expensive, but they do have incredible stuff.
Shannon

Thanks Rialtogrl! I will definitely check those flower vendors out and explore a little before we plunk down our cash.

Tandy, have you seen the movie Pane E Tulipani (Brad and Tulips)? As soon as I read your post I was reminded of it...Venice, Florists etc. It might be a nice movie to rent before your visit to Venice.

:)
