Florence - Where to stay
 

My sister and her husband are visiting Florence for three days in March with their 21 year old son.
Any ideas where they can stay? Moderately priced. I can't remember where I stayed last year, but it wasn't anything that I would recommend.

'Moderately priced' could mean absolutely anything. What is the budget???

Will they be spending all three days in Florence?

If not how will they get around?

The reason I ask is there are several interesting hotel in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella across the street from the train station but just inside the historic area. A couple of minutes walk to all the major sites.

I second Myer's rec in terms of location. Stayed there when last in Florence and it was an easy walk to and from <B>the things we wanted to do</B>

I stayed in Art Atelier Hotel in March of last year and it was a good stay. It had very good prices back then, payed 90E per night including breakfast.
It's quiet and beautiful, near the San Lorenzo food hall and a few tourist sites, very easy walk to the train station and Piazza del Duomo.
For me the location was perfect and it will be my first choice for staying on my next visit:

Last September , stayed at Hotel Della Nazioni directly across from train station and walkable to all main sites. Ask for top floor with balcony.

We really enjoyed the Hotel Casci with our family of 4. The location was ideal, and they have family rooms. We would absolutely stay there again, FWIW.

Another vote for Hotel Casci. I have stayed there at least 4 times in the past few years and absolutely love it.
It is a fairly small family owned and operated hotel,moderately priced.
Great location, extremely clean, with fabulous breakfasts and a very friendly helpful staff.
Also free WIFI in all rooms that works very well.
As mentioned above they have 1 or 2 family sized rooms which might be good for you.

I loved Relais Cavalcanti. Excellent location near Ponte Vecchio for easy access to a lot of the major attractions on both sides of the river. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

Last May we spent 5 nights at the Badia Fiorentina's self catering apartment, the B&B is right next door. Superb location, right on Via Dante Aligheri and within walking distance of almost all the sights.

A couple of years back my brother stayed at the Soggiorno Battistero B&B, right across from the Duomo. He had a room on the top floor with a gorgeous view over the piazza, even though it meant tramping up four flights of stairs, though I believe they have since put in an elevator.

Both B&Bs a reasonably priced and have family rooms.
