Florence - walking from train station?
I am having trouble with distances on the Florence map.
Our apartment is on Via del Corso - we will have two wheeled suitcases - can anyone tell me if that street is within walking distance from the train station? |
My Florence map shows it to be about half a mile.

tassietiger, keep in mind several things.
Streets are likely to be crowded with pedestrians (depending on exactly when you will be arriving) as you will be walking right through the center of Florence. Streets are often cobbled, much more difficult to pull a wheeled suitcase over an uneven, rough surface. Taxis are not terribly expensive in Florence. |
We walked from the train station to the rental car place towing our suitcases...me, my wife, our 11 and 15 year old daughters. It was not far, nor was it terribly difficult to find, but with all of the vespas and cars zooming about, (this was not in the high season) it kind of sucked. I would get a taxi next time.

You are going to be a couple of blocks farther south of the Duomo than we were this past summer. We had no problem rolling a 22" suitcase each, plus a duffle bag on top of the suitcases, from the area of the Duomo to the train station (or vice versa). It took us ten minutes from the immediate Duomo area to the train station.
I can tell you that after studying my Florence map for months before our trip, things were much closer than I had anicipated once we were actually there. I honestly don't think you will have any problem as long as you give yourself plenty of time to get from point A to point B if you are in a rush. My approximation on time would be about 15-20 minutes walk with luggage (give or take). I agree with Marilyn that it might be easier to get a cab, if you don't care to walk that far. Otherwise, walk away and enjoy! |
