Florence - unique accomodations

Hello all - this site is wonderful... a bit too addictive though.

I'm down to planning the last 3 days of the honeymoon and it will be in Florence. We're just coming off of a stay in the countryside so I'm thinking Florence city center would be nice. Want something unique though - not into traditional hotels. Has anyone been to antica torre di via tournabuoni? It has great ratings on trip advisor...

Any other suggestions would be great - price range around $200. This is coming up quickly - 1st week of May!

Thanks!!

I have stayed at Antica Torre di via Tornabuoni and loved it. I wouldn't necessarily say it is "unique," but it is a small boutique hotel without the pretensions. Its website gives an accurate reflection of what the rooms are like (for more pictures, go to italyby.com). The hotel is in a great location (5 minutes to the Ponte Vecchio, 7 to the Duomo) and you can feast on their breakfast (included) while eating on a beautiful rooftop terrace.

For more info, click on my username and look for more trip report from my honeymoon.

Good luck, although I will say book quickly.

HI
several years ago I stayed at the Romantik hotel J & J (Romantik is a small chain.) The hotel was formerly a monastery and a historic building, so no elevator. Very nice breakfast provided in the morning. Huge room, nicely furnished, private bath, completely modernized.
Great location, about 10-12 minute walk to Duomo, about the same to Santa Croce church. Quiet location (at least our room was quiet.)

Just in case you can't get into your first choice I'd certainly recommend the Orto de Medici. It's only a few minutes from the Duomo just round the corner from San Marco. It really is likely a country house with nice big rooms a couple of huge reception rooms and (best of all) a terrace at the back. I booked it via www.venere.com which I've found to be a very reliable site plus it has lots of info about each hotel and user reviews.
Have a great trip!

Hello:

My wife and I stayed at the Villa Cora for a few days during our honeymoon (I got a deal from work). It was a great place and in a beautiful neighborhood, it is about a 10 minute walk to the city center, but not in the city center. Beautiful view of the city and very lovely hotel.

Hi Aurorah,

You might want to consider the Villa Aurora in Fiesole.

Fiesole is a suburb of Florence, on a hill overlooking the town. 20 min by bus to the train station.

Hi, there's a new charming B&B in Florence, name is Florence dream and address Via dei Ginori. try to search it on the internet. I also like Residence Panella address via della Pergola.
Good search.

Hi Aurorah!
I would recommend the Belletini - but in the Annex rooms only for a unique experience. These rooms are removed from the hotel so you get your own key to a house where the rooms are located. For my wife and I this felt like we had rented our own apartment instead of staying at a hotel. You could still walk over to the hotel in the morning to catch breakfast if you wanted. The rooms are individually decorated and quite large. It's also a great location, just around the corner from the Medici chapel!! Book early though because I hear the Annex books up quickly.
